Dyson is one of the biggest manufacturers of vacuum cleaners today. They are so popular that most countries across the globe retail them. Dyson not only manufacture upright and canister models, they also manufacture handheld or cordless vacuum cleaners for regular touch up jobs.
This review hopes to help you understand what the Dyson handheld vacuum cleaners are capable of.
Types of Dyson Handheld vacuums
Dyson brings out two models of handheld vacuum cleaners in the United States. One is the DC34 and the other is the DC35 Multi floor model. There is very little difference between the two when you consider what they are capable of. However the main distinguishing factor is that one is a typical handheld and the other is a cordless one which has a longer wand. So, one can be used for smaller jobs, like vacuuming your furniture and things like that, while the other one can be used for vacuuming the ceiling or places where you need more reach.
What can Dyson handheld vacuums be used for?
Both these vacuum cleaners are designed with a purpose in mind. To be able to do daily clean up jobs with ease and to vacuum smaller areas effortlessly. Which is why, the handheld vacuum is extremely light, weighing only 2.9 pounds. Which means that you can easily carry it around your home, check for places that need vacuuming and run the vacuum over that area, giving you a spotlessly clean house.
The cordless version is a bit heavier, weighing about 4.9 pounds. However, this one is easier to maneuver around the home and get to areas where you normally would not be able to reach. You could easily vacuum the highest part of your curtains, the ceiling, under the bed or anywhere else where you need a long reach.
Handheld vacuum cleaners are convenient to use for touch up jobs around the home, where getting out your big bulky vacuum cleaner is too much hassle for simple jobs. With a handheld you can easily clear up pet hair, clean up your furniture or upholstery, vacuum that spot of dirt on the rug or clean up your child’s room quite easily. These vacuum cleaners are also a good option for smaller sized homes.
According to one customer…
“This little fella has amazing suction. With a houseful of shedding machines – golden retriever, and 2 Maine Coon Cats – a daily swoop along the baseboards, under the table, and down the stairs picks up the fur that was formerly all over. I love it!”
Advantage of Dyson Handheld vacuum cleaners
- The biggest advantage of handheld or cordless vacuum cleaners is that they are light weight and are best suited for smaller jobs.
- They are powerful and can clean out smaller areas effortlessly.
- Dyson handheld vacuum cleaners come with a 2 year warranty.
- Dyson also offers free shipping on most of their vacuum cleaners bought online, including their handhelds.
- The easy disposal of dirt with the press of a button is one of the major attractions of the product.
- Both models come with a lithium ion battery which charges three times quicker when compared to other battery types.
- You can choose between a less powerful constant suction mode or a powerful suction for shorter duration, depending on the type of cleaning.
The best way to find out whether a product is good or not, is by checking its drawbacks. With the Dyson handhelds, the disadvantages are hard to find. These vacuum cleaners have no substantial disadvantages, if you would like the nitpick, then I would say that one of the common complaints with the cordless vacuum is that a lot of people do find it difficult to lean it against the wall. However, this complaint is easily dealt with as you can lean it against furniture.
The other complaint is the fact that you will need to press the switch continuously while vacuuming. Most users do not find this a problem because these vacuums are only meant for cleaning up smaller areas.
My Recommendation
If you have a small home, simple clean up jobs and every day touch up jobs, I strongly recommend that you give the Dyson handheld units a shot. If your clean up is more running a vacuum over the sofa or couch, go with the Dyson DC16. On the other hand if you would like to clean areas where you need more reach, then go with the Dyson DC31.
Whatever you choose, you will definitely be extremely happy with your purchase.
