Hoover is one of the biggest names when it comes to vacuum cleaners. In fact they’ve been making vacuum cleaners for more than 100 yrs, so you can’t say that they don’t know what they are about. And they also have a very good name for giving you exactly what you want. They have more than 55 different models of vacuum cleaners that you can choose from which is the maximum range of any manufacturer in the world.
The Hoover floormate spinscrub is a little different from a vacuum cleaner in that although it has a vacuuming feature, it also has a washing and drying feature. Let us see what exactly this machine is about.
Features of the Hoover Floormate Spinscrub
The Floormate is made specifically to be used on hard floor surfaces. Although vacuum cleaners are good enough for carpets, when it comes to hard surfaces they will remove dust and dirt, but will not really make them clean. You will then have to follow up with a mop, to get your floors looking really clean.
The floormate solves this problem for you. They have the vacuum feature that will suck up all the dirt, and they have contra-rotating brushes that will remove all the dirt from their path. You also have a container into which you can put in liquid detergent with a switch on the handle that releases a small amount exactly where you want it. This means that when you hit a patch that is really dirty and are finding it difficult for you to clean, you just inject a little bit of detergent, run the brushes over the place for a few minutes and all the dirt is removed.
When you use the vacuum function, all the dirt including the water is sucked up into another container. Or you can even use the machine to mop the floor. You first go over the floor with just the vacuum on to sweep up all the dirt. You then follow up with the moping feature injecting detergent so that the floor is scrubbed clean. And because it has the drying feature, the floor is not left dirty to pick up footprints. It dries within just a few minutes.
The advantage of this over a mop is that you don’t have to change anything. The brushes are nylon and last a long time, and when the bristles do wear down, you can replace the brush alone. And you don’t have to have a number of different machines to do the job, the one machine is enough.
You get a 27 ft long cord so there is no way you will ever find that lacking and it has a 15 inch wide cleaning path. This is probably the widest that you will ever get in any vacuum cleaner, and the floormate does not lose out anything in that regard too.
The spin scrub brushes work so well that it even cleans textured floors, something that other similar machines do not do well. In fact most users complement the machine on how well it cleans textured surfaces, better even then when they did it with a scrub, on their knees, by hand.
The wheels are made of rubber specifically because it should not slide over wet surfaces. The fold down handle is available on this model too which makes storing it easy.
All the controls are kept in the handle which means ease of operation. You can just switch on the function you want and leave it to do its thing.
And for the price that you get it, there’s simply no other machine that can come close for value.
Our Recommendation
If you have carpeted surfaces, you may want to go with a traditional vacuum cleaner. But if you have hard floors, like tiles, linoleum, or even wood, a vacuum is just not enough. However much vacuum cleaner manufacturers say that their machine will do the job, it is just not effective because they are not made for it.
The floormate is however made just for this. Although you can use it on soft surfaces too, it is advisable to not do so in the interests of longevity of your carpets. For hard floors however there is nothing that comes close. Of course you can get a steamer which is supposed to do a good job, but even they are nothing but a mop, and unless you have tiles, they are a waste. Any kind of textured surfaces, or hardwood and they don’t work.
We would definitely recommend the Hoover floormate to any person looking for something to clean their hard floors. The only reason it gets a 4.5 rating instead of a 5 is because they only offer a 1 yr warranty. Even at this price range, at least two or three years should be standard, if not for anything else, just to give more confidence to the buyer.
Barring this one anomaly, there are absolutely no negatives, and this model gets a big thumbs up from us.
