Most of us have heard of Kirby. In fact some of us would have even been contacted by Kirby sales personnel, and a fewer number would have even bought one. When it comes to home cleaning system, Kirby is probably one of the most expensive ones that you can get. Starting from $1,000 and going all the way to $2,000+ they have a number of models of home cleaning systems that you can choose from.
The Sentria home cleaning system is called this because it is not only a vacuum cleaner. It basically does everything that you would ever need in your home, from vacuuming your floors and upholstery, to shampooing and cleaning out your carpets and then drying them out, to dusting all your delicate curios.
It’s kind of like an all in all machine, and the advantage of having this is that you can do everything with just the one machine, instead of having a number of smaller and cheaper ones to do individual jobs. Let us now take a closer look at the Kirby Sentria Home Cleaning System to see how good it is.
Features of the Kirby Sentria Vacuum
The first thing that strikes you about this system is that it is made from brushed Aluminum. No plastic parts in the machine, and in fact Kirby sells the machine with the tagline, “The last vacuum cleaner you’ll ever buy” implying that it will last you a lifetime.
The second thing is the number of parts that come with it. You get so many attachments that at first you may get confused with the number of things that you can do with the machine. Yet each attachment is meant for a specific purpose, and they all work very well.
It is a bagged model, but that is not too much of a problem because you can get a 6 pack for around $15 which is pretty decent.
It has a carpet cleaning feature where you can shampoo your carpet, clean it, and then dry it out in a couple of hours. And while you do get other machines that do this job for you, they will not work as a vacuum cleaner, while the Kirby will.
The biggest USP for this machine though is its lifetime warranty. This means that anytime anything goes wrong with it, all you do is call Kirby and you get a technician at your doorstep to repair your machine.
The warranty alone is worth a few hundred dollars, especially if you are going to be using it for a really long long time, as it is meant to be.
And they can take quite a lot of abuse without complaint. In fact they can almost be compared to an industrial vacuum cleaner, they are so good.
Our Recommendation
Although Kirby Sentria looks like a very good machine, there are a few drawbacks to the machine. The first is the price. If you opt to have a salesman come to your home for a demo, you can end up paying anywhere between $1,000 and $2,000+ for the same machine, it all depends on how much the salesman thinks you are worth.
This itself seems like a rip off, where there is no specified price for their product. If however you are getting it from an online site, you get the lowest price anywhere, which is around the $1,000 mark.
The machine as such is a very good one and lasts a long time. The customer service is also good, and they live up to their warranty too. It’s just that they have very aggressive sales tactics that most people are really irritated about. Many have complained that the salespeople almost refuse to leave unless you threaten to call the cops.
The last one is the price. Any which way you look at it, paying so much for cleaning your home is really not worth it at all. Even if the warranty is a lifetime one, there’s really no point in getting it simply because for a few hundred you can get separate vacuum cleaners and carpet shampooers.
And they will also be much lighter too. This thing weighs in at 35 lbs, and while aluminum is all very well to look at, it’s not as easy as plastic to lug around.
We would only recommend the Kirby to those who really need to do a lot of cleaning. For example there is one particular user who has a Kirby to clean her home because she watches kids at home and vacuums three or 4 times a day. She shampoos and cleans out her entire home once every couple of days, and for such kind of use the Kirby is good.
For others, it’s just too much money for something that you can get much cheaper. When you look at it, even a Dyson is many times more than three times the cost of a good machine from other manufacturers, so why would you want to pay two times what a Dyson costs for the Kirby.
Lastly even those who have said that they like the machine generally don’t give the machine more than a 4 star rating, which says a lot about what they think about the machine. Most consumer ratings on average are either 3 or below, so we would nor recommend you to get this machine.
